Second Language Research is an international peer-reviewed, quarterly journal, publishing original theory-driven research concerned with second language acquisition and second language performance. This includes both experimental studies and contributions aimed at exploring conceptual issues.
This research aims to study the identity construction of foreign language learners in foreign language learning classrooms. It investigates the influence of English foreign language on Pakistani student’s identity. Forty students who were studying English as a second language in Lahore college for women's university, Pakistan participated in this research. The participants filled questionnaire and were interviewed. Results show that identity is fluid and changing. This research recommends educators and policymakers develop such policies which could enhance student’s identity.
Thus, Students could identify themselves as good Muslims, good Pakistanis, and peaceful members of the global community.
The many cognitive benefits of learning languages are undeniable. People who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills.
